Castle Leslie

Castle Leslie Lodgings

The Castle promises complete respite from the world at large. Here log fires crackle in the hearths, old-style hospitality is the norm, and you enjoy fabulous dinners by candlelit. There’s space for socialising, and cosy corners for solitude.
Allow us to cushion you from all intrusions of the outside world (you won’t find any concession to telephones or televisions in the bedrooms here). There’s nothing to interrupt this oasis of civility.
It’s a vast Victorian home filled with beautiful furniture, antiques and heirlooms. Upstairs you’ll find twenty unique and original bedrooms, each with a part to play in the Leslie family history. Even the en-suite bathrooms are worthy of note fitted with throne toilets, fabulously large baths and extraordinary showers.

Castle rooms:
The Castle offers a choice of elegant rooms to relax and socialise in.
Breakfast ’til noon, then sneak off to the private Cinema, test your skills at the full-sized Billiard table, dine by candlelight in the Dining Room and Gallery or dine privately in the hand-painted Blue Room.
Or simply relax in the magnificent Drawing room with its grand piano and famous De La Robbia fireplace.
Enjoy the wonderful pleasure gardens with a picnic on the lawn, a BBQ on the terrace, take a boat out or fish for pike on the tranquil Glaslough Lake.

Bedrooms:
The Castle offers a choice of 20 unique bedrooms. Each is full of character, with every nook and cranny steeped in a different chapter of the witty light-hearted Leslie history. Here you choose whether you rise at dawn to enjoy the Estate's many activities or sleep till noon.
From romantic boudoirs designed for seclusion and slumber to more flamboyant bedrooms decorated with rich deep colours, there's a room and a view to suit every taste. The bathrooms are equally individual boasting the oldest bath in Ireland, throne toilets, even a complete bathroom hidden away in a dolls' house. Some baths are built for two - ideal for the romantic.
THE RED ROOM is blessed with the most stunning views of the lake. The four poster bed and other furniture came from Peruggia in Italy, except for the noble French `armoire' cupboard. It is an intensely family room. The bed is a doorway in and out of this life. Born in and died in. All very peacefully. Anita Leslie King gave birth to her daughter Leonie here.
The MAUVE ROOM and its adjoining dressing room came to be known as The Royal Suite, having given sweet slumber and other delights to numerous royalty.
The BLUE ROOM acquired its marvelous deep blue from Lady Leonie Leslie, before she later moved to the Mauve Room. Sammy has faithfully copied this blue in the bathroom, once the dressing room. Later it was transformed to an `Odeon cinema' cum TV room with suitably hideous colours and plastic seats for herself and her little sister, Camilla.
The Eagles Nest: As the name suggests, this room is at one of the highest points of the house and has a wonderful balcony with sweeping views of the beautiful lake and gardens.
SHANE (born John) was the eldest of the four Leslie boys (Norman, Seymour & Lionel). In this room, inspired by views of the lake, and many years before his granddaughter Sammy designed and installed the great gothic bath, Shane wrote many of his best books and poems. His novel about Cambridge `The Cantab' was suppressed by the Home Secretary, by mistake! Today Shane’s biographies and works are considered collectors' pieces and eagerly sort after.
