You
have been riding for a while and feel this urge to
use your riding skills for something more than just
a pleasure ride. You like to be physical and want to
get back to the basics for a while. Picture yourself
on a horse for three days straight riding the fence,
bringing in a few strays, sharing your meals with
Bill and Joe, the wranglers on the range. Does this
sound like a childhood dream to you? If so, a
working ranch is for you. The week might include
branding, penning, cutting, riding hard for a day or
two to supply the range rider with grub, and some
quiet moments around the campfire spinning yarn and
talking about your days’ adventures. You should
expect very basic accommodations in the bunkhouse or
tent cabin. Meals are always plentiful, the horses
some of the best in the country and the wisdom of
your hosts invaluable.
