Enjoyed the most: The guides were fantastic! Dominique especially - she explained a lot about the history of Turkey and the region, which made the trip even more meaningful. Also, the guest houses were amazing! They did a great job of making sure we were comfortable after a long day of riding... and the meals were wonderful too.

Bothered you: This English lady that roomed with me made fun of me cuz I was American the whole time... got kind of annoying. But that's beyond your control. :)
I sort of expected more cantering... 80% was walking, but I understand why... it was very hot and hilly and the horses needed to take it slow.  Plus there was a lot to see, so it was fine to walk and see all the sights.

Comments: I hadn't expected to ever go on another horse-riding vacation.... but this was such a great experience that I'm sure I'll go on many, many more! Hidden Trails and the ranch owner were extremely helpful with coordinating my travel plans and helping me get where I needed to be.

Enjoyed the most: The horses, scenery, wildflowers.

Bothered you: One rider.

Comments: The trip is fabulous.

Enjoyed the most: The countryside and the horses!

Bothered you: Dinner at the one of the hotels was poor.

Enjoyed the most: The landscape and riding trails.

Bothered you: I got sick and couldn't ride for 2 days, but everybody was kind an helpful.

Enjoyed the most: The scenery and my horse, "San"!

Bothered you: Only the heat on the very last day of riding...weather was perfect up to that point.

Comments: I knew it would be a physical trip, and it did involve lots of hiking up and down steep trails, as mentioned.  One definitely has to be in good physical shape, esp. if it's hot.

The scenery was magnificent, & I had a very good horse. It was a particularly good group of people.

The guide was pleasant enough, but although it's clear on the site that the riders have to do everything themselves, he took it to the extreme. One or two people struggled at times, but he didn't show much interest. The meals really catered for vegetarians, the quality was good, but for me very repetitive. Only had meat one day which was a small portion of chicken

Comments

This trail requires you to be super fit & a very good rider. You have to walk with the horse up two mountains & there's very long gallops/

Helene, our guide, has the talent to take us into the country and customs smoothly; because of her graciousness, you know you are welcome. I was happily absorbed into all the culture. Eating the wild grapes and apples growing along the trails. I don't recommend sampling the Russian olives! The bustling and colorful farmer's market Saturday in the town of Urgup. Everything is genuine, the people are gracious. What a blending of the ancient techniques which still work for the inhabitants, and modern technology (like rooftop solar panels). Young girls and their friends running to see us pass thru their village. Flocks of sheep and goats being shepherded from yesterday’s distant hills through our current town the next morning. At an intersection of two high-speed roads, we two horse riders, mounted, had to stand at the red lights and wait our turn for the green lights in order to cross the highway. Wish I had a picture of that! Delightful variety in lunch options throughout the week. A picnic; a surprising brunch at an open-air cave café in the middle of the arid "badland"; at a svelte guesthouse/restaurant, beside their swimming pool, looking down onto the shaded trail where the horses were tied; the restaurant with the modern motorized retractable window-walls and roof panels.

Comments

The Cappadocia region has been described as "badlands", and "being on the moon". Both descriptions are accurate; there cannot be another spot on earth exactly like this. I recommend the hot air balloon ride option; when you are in the air, you get perspective of the extreme terrain you have been navigating. There may be an opportunity to tour one of the undergroup cities that are close by. I also recommend viewing the modern version of the ancient art of stone carving, which is found in Helene and Nicko’s saddle room.

Combination of good horseriding with beautifull nature and history! But for real the huge amount of long distance canters!

Bothered you

That the trip was so soon finished, time was running!

Comments

On a horse riding trip in argentina I met another group, they had many good experiences with you, so I tried a trip in jordany, beautifull, I tried it again with cappadocia and I´am happy again!

I wasn't crazy about the food, but that's just because I have a narrow range of food I like.

6 days of long riding all day, cross country, thru fabulous scenery. Liked the small local hotels with typical ambiance of the area (one was a cave hotel) even though not considered first class and one didn't always have hot water. Enjoyed meeting riders from other countries. The horses - all mares, were safe, even though there was pecking order and they could not be close to each other. I enjoyed my horse. Loved the Turkish bath.

I liked our guide, but felt 6 riders were too many for her to pay attention to - or she was preoccupied with her very active stallion she was riding (with riders on all mares).
Examples:
(1) I was not familiar with the tack and could not easily make adjustments along the way (problem with bridle and stirrup length) and she could not help because she couldn't leave her stallion and he could not be close to the mares. Or another rider might have to assist me or her. Or i had to wait til the break where all the horses were tied up.
(2) As my horse walked the slowest, I was banned to be the last rider in the string (though my horse did trot and canter as fast as the other horses and I always could catch up). Therefore, being last, it was very frustrating for me as I never heard the guide's commentaries about the area or scenery, or instructions. And when the front group stopped for pictures for a couple of minutes, they were ready to move on by the time I caught up to them at the scenic spot, so that I could not easily stop and take pictures.

Interesting area.

Two things. There was never any hot water in the morning and I had to take cold showers every day with cold outside and inside temperatures which didn't help me to get over my cold/flu.

Also, the guide was riding a stallion with mares in the group that were in heat. Also, my mare insisted on being near the stallion (who didn't want her around him.) I had to move up behind the guide or else she was uncontrollable. Why anyone would bring a stallion on a ride with a bunch of mares, one of which was in heat, is beyond me.
