Enjoyed the most
The horses were amazing. It was such a gift to be able to ride through parts of Iceland not seen via car and highway.
Bothered you
There were about 20 people on our tour including the guides and 1 or 2 bathrooms. It made for an annoying process at the end of what are long days.
The horses are wonderful.
The hotel accommodations in Reykjavik left a little to be desired. I don't need luxury accommodations, but the room at the hotel on the first night was no bigger than a closet and two people could barely turn around. It was truly uncomfortable.
Comments
Originally through a web search, but I have taken four trips through Hidden Trails.
Iceland is a beautiful country. And while I was ready for rain - we were fortunate to have nice weather the majority of the week.
Tolting on the Icelandic horses & the beautiful scenery. It was great to try a variety of horses throughout the trip.
The hostel that we stayed in for 2 nights (Tuesday & Wednesday)-- it was really disappointing, especially after we were told in the trip documentation that we would be at Kjóastaðir farm. I don't mind sharing bathrooms with the other riders on the trip but it was not good to share them with numerous other people who were in/out of the hostel. I didn't feel like our luggage & personal items were terribly secure either with so many people in/out. There was no space for our luggage & we were crammed to 6 people in a room. Our room at Hotel Cabin the first night was pretty bad, too...no shampoo or conditioner & so cramped we could barely open our suitcases. The last night at Hotel Cabin was much better as we had a bigger room.
One of my favorite trips!
Enjoyed the mostThe scenery and the other riders. Iceland is a gorgeous country.
Guides: The two Icelandic girls were fantastic.
Enjoyed the mostThe company, the scenery, the ponies were fine.
Bothered youthe food could have stepped it up. I don';t really like lamb, that was probably mutton, I won't be eating lamb again soon.
Enjoyed the most: The horses, the guides, and the peacefulness. Had a wonderful time on this tour.
Bothered you: Anything that bothered me was trivial.Comments: Had a wonderful time on this tour.
Enjoyed the most: The historical information provided by the guides in context of the places we rode.
Bothered you: I felt there was not enough time to stop for photographing.
Enjoyed the most: The horses were wonderful and the guide did her best to let us all ride the horses we wanted.
Bothered you: The only thing that bothered me was the unpredictable weather.
Comments: I have taken many horse trips and this was one of the very best in every way. This trip was as advertised---we appreciated that.
Enjoyed the most: I loved the pace of the ride. It was not too slow. The guide was also very good. The hosts (and cooks) were top notch.
Bothered you: The accomodation in Reykjavik. The accomodations in Reykjavik was so-so. Very noisy guestroom. In Fossness and Geysir, it was EXCELLENT.
Comments: On your list of things to bring, a mosquito net is a lot more useful than a repellant. Also, although helmets and rain gear are provided, I would suggest you recommend people to bring their own.
Enjoyed the most: Most every thing about the way the tour was handled made for a really enjoyable time. The horses were first rate.
Bothered you: Nothing...Comments: The tour guides were excellent. I really can't say enough about their support, encouragement and help. They not only knew the their jobs but were able to judge everyone's abilities and respond accordingly. They choose the right horses for me (it had been some time since I had last ridden) and my confidence soared! Again, I can't say enough about the tour guides. They were so professional, understanding and encouraging.
Enjoyed the most: Getting to be really confident with the horses, and getting a taste of iceland for the forst time.
Bothered you: There was nothing that really bothered me, the guest houses/ farms and hosts were great, and the whole group got on really well. I had no problem with the horses or the pace of the riding.
