Introduction
Sardinia Italy

Ride from west to east on the southwest corner of Sardinia, a land full of rich history, culture and nature. This leisurely cycling trip follows a relaxing route from Iglesias to Chia and encounters old mining sites, natural monuments and ruins of ancient civilizations. It s suitable for all participants and enables you to discover traditions and architecture of the Mediterranean gem.
Sardinia s southwest is an image from book: vineyards and olive groves pass by, high rugged cliffs tower above, isolated beaches and coves call out, archaeological and architectural examples stand abandoned and tiny islands dare to be broached by swimming- all of this in a color palette to shame the boldest of artists. Sardinia prides itself not only on its natural beauty but on food and wine, so don t miss out on these treats during the downtime.

The trip starts on the west coast at Iglesias. From Iglesias we follow the coast south across wild landscapes, up and through the mining village of Bugerrru, before our descent to the coast starts in Nebida. The next day you take a boat to the island of S.Pietro and the seaside town of Carloforte with its natural monuments, beaches and old fishing nets. Then we are off to the Phoenician Island of S. Antioco, with its museums, traces of the past and handicrafts that make it unique in the world. On Day 6 we ride from Calasetta to S. Anna Arresi deep in the south of the island. Along the way you ll visit the Church of St. Maria and the abandoned medieval village of Tratalias. The next day we ride from S. Anna Arresi to Chia along the southern Coast, where you admire a beautiful mixture of wild coasts, Mediterranean scrub, and lovely creeks.

Seasons
In Sardinia, you will get the chance to enjoy temperate Mediterranean island weather. Sea breezes mitigate the summer heat along the coasts, and the temperature never goes below zero even in winter. Rain is rare everywhere, especially in the summer.

Winter
The winter is very short, the coldest months are January and February, but along the coast the temperature rarely drops below freezing and almost never snows. In the center, temperatures drop a few degrees below zero at night and snow is concentrated in the mountains, rarely even whitening the roofs of mountain villages. This is the period of carnivals and the most traditional festivals of the island.

Spring
In the spring the temperature reaches 20 degrees and rainy days become rarer. The sea begins to heat up, the days get longer and nature has its best colors; this is the season of the first swims, of sun and sea, and the active holiday.

Summer
In summer the sun is high and it does not rain, temperatures exceed 30 ° C and the sea water is hot. During the day, you can enjoy the sea, beach, boating or diving. At night temperatures drop and the air is cooled by the sea breeze; then begins the al fresco dining, nightlife or romantic walks on the promenades.

Autumn
Autumn arrives late in Sardinia; temperatures exceed 20 °C and the sea water maintains heat from the summer. The days get shorter but it does not rain and the sun is always high. On the coast it is still warm enough to swim, although in the evening the temperature is cooler. While waiting for the winter you can still enjoy the outdoors. This is the best time to discover the center of Sardinia with a dip into its traditions and more ancient culture.
