Introduction
Mount Kenya Kenya

Olea Africana Ride
As the famous quotes states..."I have a farm in Africa" at the foot of Mt. Kenya and to the east of the Aberdare ranges. Here is your home for the week at Sandai farm. This lodge will allow you to explore the vast countryside during your visit. The lodge has nice facilities and great hospitality. There are several riding horses with wonderful places to ride. Astride a horse is the perfect way to watch wildlife or to view the native life that surrounds you. On our day jeep safaris we can seee elephants, cape buffalo, zebras, giraffes, eland and seven other kinds of antelope.

Of course there are many scenic rides through one of the most beautiful tropical valleys in Africa. And yes, there are lots of good hiking trails. If you want to add an overnight at one of the Game Lodges, you can you can spot wildlife from comfortable blinds at night where wildlife comes to feed or lick salt in well-lighted areas.

The real story is written in the colorful and varied lives of the tribes of people that populate this lovely country.

Most safari companies do a good job of exposing their clients to the scenery and wildlife of Kenya, but there is little if any contact with the native people that make up the culture of this nation. Our focus is to introduce you to the people of Kenya, that you may have a glimpse of the real East Africa.

Your week will include overnight camping rides to Olea Africana Camp - a beautiful spot perfectly situated on the trail route and overlooking the Laikipia Plains. It is a land left in a very natural way. If you prefer to sleep in your bed- we will take you back by car for the night.

Come and experience Africa's people and land on our Horseback Safaris. How deeply you become involved with the people is up to you, but we desire to give you every opportunity to view life through their eyes... if only for a little while.

Accomodation

The farm lies idyllically in the middle of a large private game ranch and is situated approximately 240km north of Nairobi in the highlands of Kenya. Sandai faces Africa’s second highest mountain, Mt. Kenya with its snow capped peaks.
The estate consists of a big comfortable farmhouse and two guest houses, four rooms, with shower/bath tap and toilet. The guest houses are comfortably furnished. In the main house there are two more guestrooms, sharing a shower and toilet. The kitchen and dining room is in the farmhouse, where You enjoy Your meals together with myself. The comfortable living room is equipped with an open fireplace, where you can sit and listen to stories and experiences about Africa. Power is supplied through a generator and solar panels.

You will feel immediately at home in this peaceful and relaxing atmosphere and listen to the voices of the African savanna. You don' t have to be terrified of animals, they will always be at a safe distance from people, and are more afraid of you than the other way round.

Meals:
You can expect a good variety of healthy meals and you will eat together with my small family and other guests at the big table in the dining room.
Special dietary requirements can be accommodated with prior notice.

This trip includes and can accommodate special dietary requests.

Riding

Itinerary

Follow a trail on horseback over some days. You will travel from different guest houses to camps, or only choose to stay in some of the offered guest houses.
Next to the riding excursions there are other activities such as jeep safaris, hiking, bird watching, camel safaris. A Camel safari to Samburu land takes place over a couple of days and can be organized with prior notice.
Here are some excursion options:

Safari to the Solio Park
With a picnic basket you set off for a half-daysafari to Solio Game Reserve, a big farm owned by a family. A large area is fenced off for the white and black rhinos. The almost extinct rhinos are protected here from poachers and can therefore breed in full peace. The Solio Game NashoernerPark has a fascinating landscape and on safe picnic sites you can enjoy your meal.

Half day or full day tour to the Aberdare Country Club
The Aberdare Country Club, a former private English villa, is not far from Petra's home, and features relaxing, wonderful gardens with tropical trees and flowers. There you can swim in their pool, play golf or tennis, go riding,Giraffen or just enjoy the comfortable restaurant with its African and international cuisine while soaking in a spectacular view of Mt. Kenya.
In the club owned game sanctuary, you can go for a small walking safari, where you are guaranteed to meet up with some zebras, giraffes and antelopes.

Day Safari to the Aberdare National Park
After an early breakfast you will set off with a prepared picnic basket for the Aberdares National Park. The Park with its magnificent landscape offers a wonderful unique opportunity. To view scenery you don’t necessarily expect in Africa. Heavy rainfalls provide a very lush green looking flora in the lower parts of the forest. The rainforest reaches an altitude of 2400 meters; bamboo forest grows up to 3000 meters from where the landscape changes to Afro alpine zone.
The highest peak on these moorlands reaches an altitude of 4000m. Plant species, such giant lobelia, groundsels and others, can be found in the sheltered valleys.
Deep gorges cut off the mountain areas, where you will find crystal clear rivers well stocked with mountain trout, threading their way across the moorlands and cascading over a series of magnificent waterfalls to form the headwaters of several major rivers.
Main animals to be seen here are the buffalo, elephant, bushbuck, wild pigs, colobus monkeys, but the rhino, lions, leopard, hyena are also at home in this National Park. You will stop at a beautiful and secure place for a picnic and arrive at home just before nightfall. You will have a lot of experiences to talk about after this day.

Birdwatching
Ornithologists will love Sandai for its three very rarebirds, such as the Spotted Creeper, the AfricanLilac Breasted Roller Grassowl, and the Little Rock Thrush. An experienced bird watcher will accompany you on your walk. The bird list has over 160 different bird species.

Day Safari to Sweetwaters Park
An hours drive from Sandai you will find Ol Pejeta Farm with its big game reserve,Mount Kenya called Sweetwaters. Here you can watch elephants, rhinos, zebras, giraffes, hippos and of course all sorts of antelopes. A special area of the park is dedicated by the Jane Goodall Institution for a group of chimpanzees. These primates are not indigenous to Kenya but mostly have been rescued from the Congo where their lives have been threatened.

Two Day Safari to Nakuru and Lake Nakuru National park
Only 4 km from Nakuru lies a very idyllic place, Lake Nakuru. This unique and beautiful soda lake, situated in the basin of the Great Rift Valley is 10 km long and 4km wide. Hundreds of thousands of flamingos form a pink strip all around the shore, a sight which will entrance you. But other animals such as zebras, lions, monkeys, giraffes, waterbucks, buffalo, and rhinos also make this their home.
