When you think of Mallorca probably
‘beach and sea’ first come to mind. But, there is more. Peaceful
backcountry where the nature is still quite untouched and the people
still have time for thinking and enjoying. Here you can relax in
the shady palm garden, ride through forests and over fields to the
beach; and enjoy the culture and bathing options of this beautiful
island. The riding from where this new trail starts is located in the
northern part of the island, the most famous one of the Balearean. It is
situated close to protected areas of Albufera with undisturbed nature
and a varied landscape - and only a few miles from the sandy beaches of
Alcudia.

Itinerary Day 1:
Arrival in Palma. Transfer to Alcudia and get together with your
guide. Overnight. Day 2: Early morning transfer from the
hotel to the riding stable. Ride along the riverbed and reed fields of
the nature reserve Albufera. At noon you take a rest and enjoy a
Majorcan picnic. The ride takes you on through the mountains of the
Serra Tramuntana on an old pilgrimage trail, passing almond, olive and
locust bean trees. You cross pine forests, Ramblas (dry
riverbeds), pastures and valleys and reach an altitude of 3,600 ft.
From up there you have a breathtaking view over Mallorca’s mountains and
plains down to the coastline. In the evening we reach the
monastery of Lluc. This is Mallorca's most sacred site in a spectacular
setting in the Serra de Tramuntana. Lluc has been a centre of pilgrimage
since the 13th century when an Arab shepherd boy, newly converted to
Christianity, discovered a dark wooden statue of the Virgin in a cleft
in the rock. The image was placed in the local church but three times it
returned miraculously to its cave, whereupon the villagers recognized a
message from God and built a shape to house it. The monastery complex
includes Els Porxerets, the former pilgrims' quarters with stabling
beneath the rooms, and the Way of the Rosary, with touches by Antoni
Gaudi. From the hilltop cross you look down over an unexpected farm and
valley and up into the pine covered mountains. You stay at the Lluc
Monastery - but it is more like a hotel than a hermitage; the 100
'cells' have en-suite bathrooms and there are several restaurants
serving
typical Mallorquin food. Day 3:
After a small breakfast and preparing the horses our
second day of the trail can start. Today we will pass through
landscapes, which a normal tourist will hardly see! You cross the
‘wild’ mountain ridge of the Macanella at 1,300 m and ride through
beautiful canyons to the plain of Campanet. With a little luck we
will see wild goats, wild cats, different birds and even the rare black
vultures. Picnic along the way. Our destination is a comfortable
luxury country hotel,
where even our horses will have their own stables.
The Country Hotel Monnaber Nou is a 4 star hotel,
which was an old Farmhouse with fields etc. It kept his old image and is
offering luxury rooms, an inside – and outside pool, tennis courts,
fitness club with sauna and whirlpool. The restaurant for our dinner is
excellent with Mediterranean kitchen! So don't forget :
Swimming clothes & something pretty for dinner, if you want!
Day 4: After
a big breakfast buffet on the terrace of the hotel with a fantastic view
over the fields down to the coast and maybe a jump into the pool
we are off for our last ride. Ride along fields and plantations of the
plain with citrus fruits and very old almond and olive trees.
Our last lunch we will have in a nice, small
restaurant offering the typical paella (not included). After a
picnic lunch we ride on to the bay of Port de Pollensa.
Through the the beautiful countryside we finally
reach the stables. Overnight stay at a hotel located in the old
town of Alcudia. Day 5: Departure after breakfast.
... if you want to extend your
holiday, additional days can be added with daily rides (approximately 2
hrs each) including some beach rides in the off season |
