BATABURO LODGE is the first in Ecuador to provide a long-term economic alternative for the Huaorani, who are currently faced with severe pressures from oil exploration in and around their territory. The BATABURO Cabins offer the Huaorani a viable way to maintain their self-sufficiency and independence into the next millennium.

The cabins are one of the few places in Ecuador where one can experience extremely isolated primary rainforest while maintaining a high level of personal comfort. The complex provides an excellent environment for families with children. Accommodation is in double rooms (with capacity for groups up to 28 people) with shared, tiled baths. The dining room is spacious and airy, overlooking the adjacent lagoon. The kitchen serves up hearty local cuisine. Try traditional yucca (manioc), plantains, and several varieties of fruit harvested from nearby rainforest farms. Plates of chicken, beef, or vegetarian food are usually part of the menu. The bounty of the nearby rivers provide fresh fish.

The area surrounding the cabins is untouched primary forest with an extensive system of hiking trails for easy access to the incredibly diverse surroundings. With the help of your Huaorani and Quechua indigenous guides and an interpreter (available in English, German, French, and Spanish) you will learn about the rainforests through the eyes of someone who has grown up in the rainforest and learned of its many wonders and secrets.

There are no fewer than six species of monkeys that live around the cabins, and it is common to catch a glimpse of them. Also in the neighborhood are toucans, macaws, parrots, hoatzins, kingfishers, caciques, guans, and several species of raptor, including the elusive harpy eagle.

Because BATABURO is deep in the Jungle, the minimum trip length is 4 days. Trips ranging between 4 and 10 days. Depending on group needs we can arrange trips up to one month or more.

(8 DAYS AND 7 NIGHTS)

To drive in the middle of the most untouched and dense rainforest in Ecuador on the rivers Tiguino and Cononaco in a motor-canoa; on the hikes to let explain from the guides the flora and fauna; in the tents to listen to the nightly noises in the forest; in the remote Huaorani – village to learn about the ancient and traditionel culture; this is our adventurous tour in to the Huaorani – Territory.

1.Day.- Reception by our staff in the city of Coca (Francisco de Orellana), ride by bus to the Huaorani-village Tiguino, on the border of the Huaorani-territory situated in the Pastaza Province. After Lunch we navigate downstream in canoe by motor on the Tiguino river. On the way, we have the opportunity to see many different birds, as parrots, toucans and also sometimes monkeys.
